At 5:07 a.m., police responded to Kush Smoke Shop on Route 22 and found the front door of the business had been shattered by a large rock, and saw a person, later identified as Hasan Williams-Chapman running from the business, Union Township police said.

Williams-Chapman was ordered to exit the store and respond to police and he was handcuffed and taken into custody, police said. A search of Williams-Chapman turned up money stolen from the business and $1,700 worth of vapes and other items, police said.

He also damaged the cash register while trying to open it, police said. Williams-Chapman was charged with the burglary, theft, and criminal mischief, police said.

Further investigation revealed Williams-Chapman burglarized the business in August and also broke into Burger King on Route 22.

Williams-Chapman also matches the description of a burglary suspect in both Hillside and Springfield for similar burglaries along the Rt. 22 corridor, police said, and they believe he broke into Kush Smoke Shop another time in August.
